Photofilms

In the spring of 2013, I did a short course to learn about making photofilms, run by the extremely talented team at duckrabbit (www.duckrabbit.info/).
Photofilms are a form of audio-visual storytelling, using soundtracks, recorded interviews, still photography - and sometimes video. They tend to be reasonably short - perhaps only a few minutes in length - but pack a powerful punch in terms of getting across a clear story and message.
I've created a number of photofilms using audio interviews, and still photographs - initially for individuals and organisations wanting to share their story, but I've also made two made from my own stories (one from my life, one fictional). You can find all my publicly available films on my Vimeo page.
The two still photographs on this page are taken from my first film, called 'Just Treat Yourself', about dressing fashionably on a very low budget. I made this for Penny, who'd then just started blogging at the age of 67 (she turned 76 in 2022, and continues to blog very successfully!). You can look at the film, here. You can find Penny's Frugal Fashion Shopper blog, here.
Although lots of people have moved on from photofilms, I like them partly because they are an interesting and powerful way of telling a story about a place, or about a person, an experience, or a view. Another reason I like them because they are relatively low-tech: they don't require the use of unusual or very expensive equipment or advanced technical skills.
